Indonesia

Bali

“Bali, still one of our favourite destinations in South East Asia. It is touristic – yes, but we have hardly ever seen such a small place with such a strong sense of culture and tradition. Hinduism represents about 1.7 million people in Indonesia, and Bali is the epicentre of it. Balinese Hinduism is a fascinating mixture between Indian religions and indigenous animist customs and it is present in everyday life through rituals and ceremonies. About Bali we love its lush vegetation, its mossy architecture, its temples, its people and traditions, its beautiful offerings on every door, on every house, its gods and demons.”

Sumbawa

“Sumbawa was our great adventure in Indonesia. We are so thankful to our couchsurfers Dhandung and Winda, who showed us the real spirit and traditions of the huge and beautiful island Sumbawa is. Predominantly muslim, it is still an unexplored island in West Nusa Tenggara. Wild nature and beaches, fascinating underwater life and deeply rooted indo-muslim traditions. Suitable for real adventurers as it offers none of the traditional travel conveniences, i.e. hostels, motorbike rentals or even restaurants.”

Flores

“The island of Flores has a spot on our podium of places with most incredible natural beauty. Part of the Lesser Sunda Islands in Indonesia’s East Nusa Tenggara province, Flores is more known for its proximity to Komodo National Park, the natural birthplace of its carnivorous dragons. We were amazed by the different shades of its blue sea, its green mountains and spectacular volcano, -Mount Kelimutu-, the diversity of its people and above everything, we fell in love with its Life under the Water. Words cannot describe the feeling of swimming alongside 4m long Manta Rays, the fortune of pursuing marine turtles and glance at all sorts of colourful fish and coral. We felt blessed for the opportunity of witnessing of all that beauty and grateful to have crossed paths with a bunch of amazing people. David, Jessica, Nieves, Gonzalo, Darno, Amy, Margot, and Susi, thank you for being part of our amazing adventure.”

Kolkata

“Our beloved Kolkata is a fascinating and vibrating city, once capital of the country during colonial times. Known as the cultural capital of India, it is a gift for all senses. Famous for its beautiful English architecture and green parks, its yellow taxis and for serving some of the best Indian Chai on small distinctive clay pots. Walking under the pre-monsoon 47 degree weather, we were mesmerised by the diversity of its people and neighbourhoods. Kolkata is definitely one of those places in India that we will continue to dream of until we have the chance to come back.”
